I have some news
Here’s a sentence I’ve been excited to type for a while:
I’m the new host of WorkLife, a podcast from TED.
WorkLife was created 8 years ago by Adam Grant and the TED team. It’s been one of the most thoughtful, accessible explorations of how we work and how we grow at work, and I’m honored — and more than a little terrified — to take the reins.
Most of what I know about work, I learned the hard way. I’ve led teams, scaled companies, and built things that worked – and things that really didn’t. Along the way, some of those lessons turned into ideas and weird metaphors that people know me for: “Give Away Your Legos” for those lost in rapid scale, cliff jumping for career risk-taking, the Waterline Model to debug issues on your team.
What’s helped me most is hearing how someone else navigated what I was struggling with. Not the polished version. The real one full of mistakes and regrets and lessons.
I’ve had some incredible mentors and leaders to learn from, but not everyone has access to that. So that’s what WorkLife is going to be.
Every episode is a conversation with an amazing leader who has built something or led through something the hard way. What actually happened. What it felt like. What they learned. You’ll walk away each time with something you can actually use — a memorable story, a framework, a metaphor.
If you’re doing meaningful work and figuring it out as you go — and you’d love to hear from someone who’s been there — this show is for you.
I’ve been that person. I AM that person, especially right now.
So are my guests.
The trailer is out today, and the first episode drops on April 28. Watch or listen wherever you get your podcasts.
We’ve been recording for a while now, and these conversations have already changed how I think about my own work life. I can’t wait for you to hear them.
What else?
If this resonates for you, here are things you can do next:
