Molly, I love reading your writing, but sometimes I have to be incredulous. I don't think Mark and "high integrity" go together after all the bad behavior at FB that has been exposed. I'm not sure how to reconcile your recollection of your time there with all that I've read over the years.
This line hit me: "The gap between what you say and what you do is demoralizing."
It's also expensive. I've hired people straight out of toxic leadership environments, and it takes months before they trust that the other shoe isn't going to drop. That gap has a human cost that never shows up in a culture survey.
The engineer raising their hand mid-crisis didn't happen because of a values poster. It happened because someone decided that how they showed up in hard moments actually mattered. A thousand small decisions before that one.
What if we measured leadership by what we build in the people around us — not just what we accomplish?
